Hi, a friend of mine mentioned I should share my experiences around writing and self- publishing this novel READ IT AND WEEP
Feel free to add your book reviews if you have read it in part or in whole.
Essentially, i wrote the book in around two months, with very little editing, as a stream of consciousness. I wrote it mostly at home and at a café in Montreal.
I read it through a few months later and made a couple of minor changes involving the logic of certain narrative threads, completing them, and corrected typos.
I spoke to a very kind literary agent in toronto and we discussed his level of interest in the book.
Eventually, my desire to just release it overtook my desire to find an agent and publisher because
i have a few other projects on the go including a feature film and four concept band/ recording projects.
I needed the book to be out to set the tone for the other projects to be complete. i asked my friends if they recommended any online ebook service. after doing a bit of research I chose bookbaby.com
Within a week of uploading a word file to bookbaby, it was available in ebook format to the major retailers.
It was really cool to make something entirely myself, without the filter of business interests or committees, or editors, and present my work as i wished it to be, with the cover i chose, written exactly as i intended made for sale worldwide on the internet.
The book is like a sculpture to me. It is in the shape of a paperback novel, with a simple cover like that of an edition of Lord of the flies, just a background colour and the title. Inside is an intense experience written with love and whatever writing capacities i have. The title is both literal and figurative. The content of the book can be read as trashy or as poetic, depending on the reader and its use. It is an instruction manual and a story. It can be read in part or in whole.
it hovers between the male experience and the female experience.
I was noticing in my spiritual healing practice how male clients have some negative effects of pornography in their energetic field. I also ended a decade long marriage a few years ago, and I have since explored the themes of love and desire in songwriting and journal and book writing to try and engage with it and discover any wisdom and peace around it.
As I was writing Read It And Weep, I was also concurrently writing a book of channeled writing on love, as I have a practice of meditating for the sake of healing others with reiki and prayer, and I often take time to take dictation from my meditation.
It reads like very poetic advice from a kind and forgiving friend.
I will publish this at some point soon.
